Bali Villas - Villa Taman Sorga

Set in the midst of a magnificent tropical garden, the Villa Taman Sorga is an inspired vision of grand opulence; one man’s manifestation of the Bali dream. Situated in Sanur, the impact of this seven-bedroom island residence is immediate. Completed in 1997, its architecture succeeds in creating an ambience of luxuriant grandness, while demonstrating a sensitive appreciation of local culture.

Contained within a high wall that ensures total security and privacy, the Villa Taman Sorga compound is a collection of six different structures. Starting from the entrance, with an enclosed carpark large enough to hold several vehicles, is the main house to one side, with a wantilian (a Balinese ceremonial pavilion used for performances) on the other. Further back, on the other side of a lush garden, lies the guest wing, the dining pavilion, and the adjoining staff quarters (which have their own entrance).

The exotic allure of this tranquil haven is further enhanced by the delicately landscaped grounds holding a large free-form swimming pool, ponds, water fountains, and an enclosure containing a family of native monkeys and tropical birds. An almost obsessive attention to detail is evident throughout the grounds and interiors. The furnishings and decorations are the culmination of years of collecting by the owner. A panoply of antiques, traditional stone carvings, ornate woodcarvings, Persian rugs, ikats, and Balinese shadow puppets, are just some of the decorative elements on display throughout the various buildings.

The main house is a two-story building, roofed in alang-alang (thatch), comprising four bedrooms, a wraparound terrace on the second floor, an outside living room on the ground floor, and a small study.

In spite of many changes caused by the rapid development of Bali this island is still one of the most enchanting travel destinations in Asia and perhaps in the whole world.

Bali's variety of attractions, the physical beauty of the island, the Religious and cultural life, the year-round pleasant climate, the friendly people, and the absence of security problems make Bali a place regarded by many visitors as the "island of the Gods" where they return again and again.

See for yourself what past visitors think about Bali, it's culture, it's beaches, rice fields, tropical mountain forests, entertainment, night life, it's people.
